Dewatered sewage sludge (prior to anaerobic digestion) or other organic waste streams such as food waste.
Hydrolysed sludge can be:
- used directly on fields, and contains 20 – 40% C-org/DM and around 5-2-4 N-P-K. Depending on local regulations, can be used as USA Class A biosolids or as a fertiliser product;
- or partly returned to anaerobic digestion, with biogas production c. 25% increased;
or used to provide available carbon to feed enhanced biological nutrient removal.
Lystek THP® is low temperature thermal hydrolysis: steam injection at 75°C, alkali addition and physical action for shearing (this ensures sensitisation).
Lystek treats nearly 200 000 t DM / yearof sewage sludge in the USA (containing over 3 000 tonnes of phosphorus).
Recent installations by Lystek include St. Thomas - Ontario, Innisfil – Ontario, St. Cloud – Minnesota, Fairfield-Suisun – California, Goleta – California (food waste).
