DRAFT 9/2022
Input materials
Sewage sludge with 25-30% dry matter.
Output products
Activated carbon (HTC coal) produced can be used in the wastewater treatment processes to remove micro plastic, hormones and pharmaceutical residues.
Phosphorus can be leached from the activated carbon, either before or after its use for water purification, using sulphuric acid, to produce phosphoric acid.
Ammonia stripped from off-gases can be either reacted with the phosphorus to produce struvite and/or used to produce ammonium sulphate.
Process description
The patented HTCycle process is a continuous hydrothermal carbonisation technology, using steam as the reaction medium at around 220°C, 24 bars for 3-5 hours.
